  • The gifts will ship in Fall 2025 during peony harvest. The timing of harvest is subject to weather conditions. We estimate that gifts will ship late October - Early November. (Subject to change if weather delays harvest.

  • Not at all. If you have a sunny spot and a small shovel, we can get through this together. Peonies mostly take care of themselves.

  • Yes! Each box is carefully packed and tied with a bow. Your peony experience is ready for its recipient.

  • Because roots are perishable outside of the ground, the gift must be returned within 14 days for a full refund. If there are any issues with your gift such as a damaged root or vase, we’re happy to assist with a replacement.

  • We source our roots from a family farm right here in the Midwest. Always American, always exceptional.

  • Store roots in a cool dry place, like the basement or the garage until they can be planted this call.

  • Plant your peony in the fall and as soon as you can. Depending where you live, that’s late September to sometime in November. Planting in the fall gives it time to settle in, start growing, and be ready for spring.

  • Spring is bloom season! Grown from a root, your peony may need 1-3 years to bloom.

  • Peonies grow in USDA zones 3-8. That’s most of the country, but confirm your zone on the USDA Hardiness Map before making a purchase.

  • Yes. It takes extra care, but peonies can be grown in a pot and have beautiful blooms.

  • Yes! Peonies can be moved and divided. Don’t leave this family heirloom behind!

  • Yes! Peonies can be divided to share with friends and family once they’re grown up.

  • The bottom line is that spring bulbs will not be as healthy and will take longer for you to get blooms. That’s not good. A potted healthy plant at your home town nursery is still a good pick, but we don’t sell spring bulbs because we insist on the absolute best. Your fall bulb will be hand selected and inspected and will bloom sooner.

  • Plant them in a sunny spot that isn’t too wet. That means a minimum of about 8 hours per day of sunshine and soil that drains easily and isn’t too wet.

  • Wet soil is muddy, and other plants will have a hard time growing there too. Mud puddles are great for jumping, but not so much for your peony.

  • Plant it 3-4 feet away from other peonies. It’s better to give it more room than it needs right now than to crowd it. It will get bigger. It also will do well as a statement piece in a small garden.

  • Dig a hole that the root can fit in, and place it in the hole with the eyes facing up. Fill the hole in with soil and keep the eyes of the peony just an inch below the surface. Planting them deeper doesn’t make them safer, and if they’re planted too deep, they’ll never bloom.

  • The eyes are either pink or white, and they look like the eyes on a potato. They definitely are not brown like the roots.

  • Clear away other plants, weeds, and grass from the area around it, and then apply a layer of mulch.

  • The first year, your plant will still be small, but it’s doing its job - growing strong and healthy roots. It will get bigger every year, and it may take 1-3 years until it flowers.
